Welcome to AIS-R Middle School.  From grade 6 to grade 8, our middle school is alive with excited, engaged students and committed, enthusiastic teachers. We are child-centered and focus on the unique age group that is middle school. We believe that what we do in middle school significantly impacts our students’ futures. We build a foundation for academic success and play a key role in fostering healthy social/emotional growth.

Our goal here at AIS-R is to address the over-all learning environment of our students and to provide them with authentic learning experiences that are based on sound research that supports the way adolescents learn. We offer a challenging curriculum and a variety of opportunities that allow students to discover their own unique talents by exploring sports, music, drama, art, world languages, student leadership, information technology and much more.

The middle school distinguishes itself from both elementary and high school in that we are organized by grade-level teams using a block schedule. Teams meet regularly to design curriculum, discuss the needs and progress of their students, and engage in interdisciplinary planning. The block schedule allows for more flexibility and time for in-depth learning.  It allows our teachers to use a variety of instructional strategies that are appropriate for middle schoolers

An important middle school goal is to build a sense of community among the students. One way in which we accomplish this is through our Advisory program.  A strong advisory program provides young adolescents with an opportunity to build positive relationships with their classmates and their advisor.  When an advisory program is effective, it can be an important factor in supporting student learning.

However, middle school students also need time to have fun.  After school, you will find lively students all over our campus participating in extracurricular activities such as “hang outs”, sports competitions, drama productions, and music programs.  Our goal is to balance a challenging academic program with opportunities for self-exploration.

Middle school is a great place for students to learn, grow and spread their wings. It is a place where eagles can learn to fly.
