What are the PSAT/NMSQT & SAT tests?

These well-known standardized tests are opportunities for AIS-R students to demonstrate his or her reasoning ability or knowledge of a given subject. The tests provide a standard measure in critical reading, mathematics and writing independent of AIS-R.  Standardized tests not only help our students better understand the level of reasoning ability required in various courses; but also, standardized test scores are integral credentials used in the college admission process.

Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)

In October, all AIS-R Sophomores and Juniors take the PSAT test. This test assesses three areas: critical reading, math and writing (scored on a 20-80 scale). Taking the test serves both as practice for students and as a diagnostic tool for educators to understand a student’s testing pattern. AIS-R students can use their personalized PSAT reports to target specific areas of growth in our SAT Prep Course.  The SAT Prep course is available to all Juniors.

National Merit Scholarship Winner in the PSAT Program:  Hassan Ali

We are pleased to announce that Hassan Ali has been awarded a National Merit Scholarship of $2500 for his outstanding PSAT scores taken in his junior year at AIS-R.  Hassan has been accepted to the following institutions:  University of Massachusetts Amherst, University of Minnesota, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne, Georgia Institute of Technology, Northwestern University and University of Toronto.  Hassan as made the decision to accept Northwestern University where he will major in chemical engineering.

SAT Reasoning Test

The SAT Reasoning Test is 3 hours & 45 minutes long. Just like the PSAT, it contains 3 sections:  critical reading, mathematics and writing.  All 3 sections are scored on a scale of 200-800

SAT Subject Tests

SAT Subject Tests are one-hour, subject-specific tests offered in more than a dozen subject areas (scored on a scale of 200-800). Students are allowed to take 3 tests on any scheduled SAT test date at AIS-R. The most competitive universities in the U.S. either require or recommend 2 or 3 subject tests.

When Should A Student Take the SAT Test and the SAT Subject Tests?

All Juniors should take the SAT Reasoning Test in January and February.  All Seniors should take the SAT Reasoning in October.  While some Juniors may take the SAT Subject Test in May – we recommend that Seniors take SAT subject Tests in October, November and December.  AIS-R administers the SATs in October, November, December, January and May on our campus to AIS-R students only.
