In keeping with our goal of educating the whole child, AIS-R offers elementary school students a wide range of specialist subjects.  Students can discover new ways of expressing themselves, develop their large motor skills and have fun at school in a different way than they do in the regular classroom.

This year, Drama is offered to students in grades 1-4.  Drama enables students to communicate in powerful ways that go beyond their spoken language ability. Through drama, students can begin to construct an understanding of their community, their environment, their own feelings and emotions.Students will have opportunities for creative exploration and expression, personal and social development, reflection, appreciation of drama and performance.

Students in K-5, participate in a developmental program where they are involved in a wide range of physical and movement activities.

Our Students will:

•  Perform a wide variety or gross motor and fundamental motor skills
•  Perform a variety of sports-related skills
•  Perform a variety of stunts, tumbling and gymnastics skills, in a safe manner, while

demonstrating proper form and function

•  Perform physical fitness activities regularly
•  Participate in activities to increase muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility
•  Demonstrate fair play and cooperation
 
Computer and Technology PDF Print E-mail

 

Technology integration gives students, a solid, yet practical, grounding in basic computer skills through the use of a broad range of software in all subjects of study, especially language arts, science, social studies and math. The grade level expectations are defined in the K-12 Technology Scope and Sequence and ensure age appropriate skills are developed. Students learn to use standard tools such as word, processors, spreadsheets and graphics programs; to explore multimedia software and associated peripherals; and to acquire such fundamental skills as keyboarding and the use of appropriate computer vocabulary. Students in ECE program (Grades KG2 - 2) have designated computer lab time, while technology skills in the UES program (Grades 3 - 5) are integrated into instruction as part of the daily learning experience, in addition to their dedicated computer lab time.  This year we will begin to offer beginning programming skills through the use of our new and exciting Lego Robotics Program in the UES.

 
World Languages PDF Print E-mail

In the 2011-2012 school year,  Arabic Language will be offered to grades KG2 - Grade 5.  French is available for grades 3-5.  At an additional cost, students in grades K2 - 5 also have the opportunity to participate in the extended Arabic Language Program (ALPS) through the after school language program.
